Learning Design Coordinator Research and Learning - University of Pittsburgh

The LDC is expected to communicate effectively and work collaboratively and consultatively with colleagues across the University Library System (ULS) who are engaged in structured research and learning opportunities with students and faculty, as well as with the library's Assessment and Quality Assurance division and other ULS stakeholders. In addition, the LDC will engage with strategic university partners, such as the Center for Learning and Teaching, to integrate library learning and research services into the curriculum.
As part of the Research and Learning Team, this position may provide instruction, outreach, and research services to assigned liaison areas and to students, faculty, and staff as needed.
Responsibilities
- Establishes a holistic, cross-departmental vision for teaching and learning at the ULS
- Engages in strategic planning, outcomes development, assessment, curriculum design, and inclusive, learner-centered content creation for the Libraries' instructional offerings
- Collaborates with ULS and University colleagues to integrate critical literacies and research education into courses and curricula
- Leads first-year information literacy instructional programming for the Oakland campus
- Creates library learning modules, video tutorials, OER materials, and digital learning objects that are accessible and compliant; assists colleagues in producing learning resources
- Develops and coordinates library workshops and instruction sessions for students and faculty as part of a suite of educational offerings at the ULS
- Leads assigned teams and coordinates relevant projects; serves on assigned teams and work groups
- Keeps abreast of best practices in learning design and provides ongoing training and communication to colleagues as appropriate; supports a culture of scholarship and inquiry regarding information literacy and research education within the ULS
- Provides research or instructional consultations for members of the University community one-on-one or in collaboration with colleagues, as appropriate
- Serves as a departmental liaison to one or more academic departments or schools, based on experience and organizational needs
- Provides outstanding internal and external customer service
Librarians at the University of Pittsburgh are members of the faculty and are expected to demonstrate continuous professional development in addition to performing their specific responsibilities. This expectation includes such activities as:
- Participating in and contributing to departmental, library and campus-wide committees or working groups
- Participating in professional organizations at a regional, state, national, and/or international level
- Maintaining a broad awareness of current and emerging issues that affect their particular areas of expertise
- Participating in relevant publishing and presentation opportunities
- Pursuing knowledge of professional trends and developments that can be applied to evolving research, services and collections
Qualifications
Required Education/Knowledge/Skills:
- MLIS from an ALA accredited program or equivalent advanced degree in a related field
- At least 3 years of relevant work experience
- Demonstrated competence with current technologies and best practices in the creative design and delivery of instruction, specifically in a higher education setting
- Ability to use software applications and tools to create instructional content
- Experience leading teams and building productive partnerships
- Experience with instructional design and learning theories
- Working understanding of assessment practices
- Education or experience with designing online learning objects
- Demonstrated self-direction and flexibility in a rapidly changing environment
- Ability to support research education and learning across multiple disciplines
- Capacity and commitment to engage in continuing professional development
- Strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and a desire to work in a collaborative environment
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
Preferred Education/Knowledge/Skills
- Experience with digital badges or micro-credentialing
- Experience with integrating library resources or services into learning management systems, specifically Canvas
- Project management experience
- Experience in performing a variety of library outreach and liaison activities to faculty and students
- Evidence of smart risk-taking, and innovative thinking
Librarians at the University of Pittsburgh are members of the faculty and are expected to demonstrate continuous professional development in addition to performing their specific responsibilities. This expectation includes such activities as participating in and contributing to departmental, library and campus-wide committees or working groups as well as the profession at a regional, national, and/or international level, maintaining a broad awareness of current and emerging issues that affect their particular areas of expertise, participating in relevant publishing and presentation opportunities, and pursuing knowledge of professional trends and developments that can be applied to evolving research, services and collections. Approximately 10% of the librarian's time should be directed toward such activities and will be included as part of the annual evaluation.
Specifically, the incumbent in this position is expected to:
- Keep abreast of and contribute as appropriate to current developments in the profession, especially as they relate to integrating primary source literacy into the curricula.
- Contribute to the profession through publications, presentations, teaching, and other professional activities
- Seek out appropriate roles in professional associations, research and/or publication on the regional, national and international level
- Participate actively in ULS and campus-wide working groups and committees, as appropriate
