Welcome, New Member: Isabel Espinal

Isabel Espinal is...
Isabel Espinal is the Research Services Librarian for Afro American Studies, Latin American, Caribbean & Latinx Studies, Native American & Indigenous Studies, and Spanish & Portuguese at the W.E.B. Du Bois Library, University of Massachusetts Amherst. She has been very active in REFORMA, serving as REFORMA President in 2013-2014, but has only recently joined SALALM since Latin American Studies and related fields have only just recently become her responsibilities. Isabel has an AB in Romance Languages and Literatures from Princeton University (where she once took a class with SALALM's Peter Johnson!), an MLIS from UC Berkeley, and an MA and PhD from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, with a dissertation titled Kiskeyanas Valientes en Este Espacio: Dominican Women Writers and the Spaces of Contemporary American Literature. Born and raised in New York City, of parents from the Cibao region of the Dominican Republic, she is the first of the first generation in her family to go to college.
