  • Abstract: In this paper we do first a brief history of diplomatic and cultural relationships between Brazil and Mexico. Then, we show the Universidad del Claustro de Sor Juana's concern with Brazilian culture through its academic programs and the sponsorship of the Machado de Assis Chair. We present a unique library collection of Brazilian classic movies on video and we also describe other singular Mexican collections at the university: Sor Juana and Her World, The Museum of Mexican Costumes, and The Soundscapes of Mexico Archive. The information professional requires an integral view of the documentary process as a socio-mnemonic one, besides the specific technical treatment, the physical medium, or the storage place of documents. This allows intervening in the preservation of a variety of institutional documents pertaining to the social memory. In our case, the library manages its own collection and collaborates with other instances in the documentary process of institutional collections.
