On behalf of the Communications Committee I have an exciting update for SALALM members.

This year, we will launch a new lala-l listserv, transitioning from the FIU-hosted platform to a Google Group hosted within the SALALM Google Workspace. This change is in line with SALALM's adoption of the Google Suite. We voted on it in the Communications Committee and the SALALM Executive Board has also voted and approved this migration.

Beginning December 2, 2025, all current SALALM members will automatically have access to the new listserv. No action will be required to continue receiving messages, though members will also be able to adjust their Google Group settings to manage delivery preferences (such as receiving individual emails vs daily digests).

Going forward, lala-l@salalm.org will be “partially moderated,” meaning that messages from listserv members will go through automatically, but any messages sent from members outside of the listserv will be sent to the listserv managers- Jill Baron, Taylor Leigh, Jade Madrid, Gayle Williams-  to triage. Spam messages will also be filtered and sent to the listserv managers.

The auto-reply feature for messages will be turned on; email senders will receive confirmation that their email was sent to the listserv.

Further details, including instructions on how to update your settings, will be shared closer to the launch date.

Thanks to Gayle Williams and FIU, lala-l has been a vibrant space for exchange for members over the last decades. We are grateful to continue working with Gayle on lala-l@salalm.org.

More soon!
Saludos,
Jade Madrid and Taylor Leigh, co-chairs of the Communications Committee
