The University of Pittsburgh is looking for a new Head of the George M. Bevier Engineering Library.
The Head of the George M. Bevier Engineering Library is a faculty librarian in the University Library System (ULS) reporting to the Associate University Librarian for Research and Learning. The position heads the Engineering Library, which also serves as the hub of library support for the sciences (including the natural sciences, mathematics, and computer science) on the University's main campus. The incumbent has responsibility for the library's operations, services, collections, and staff. The position also facilitates collection development for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) disciplines across the ULS and serves in a liaison role to the School of Engineering.
Responsibilities
Provide strategic leadership and vision for the library services in the disciplines served by the Engineering Library. Collaborate with relevant ULS colleagues to stay apprised of user and disciplinary needs, to develop or modify library services and collections, and to effectively promote and communicate library support to STEM constituencies across campus. Provide operational leadership for the Engineering Library and its staff, including supervision of the librarians and staff, responsive development of the library's collections and resources, and attention to the provision of services within the library to create consistently excellent user experiences.
Maintain a general liaison relationship with faculty members and students in the School of Engineering, and/or other science departments as assigned. The specific liaison role includes proactively building relationships and partnerships with faculty, staff, and students in the assigned departments; staying current with user needs; keeping the services and collections of the library responsive to change; promoting awareness and use of Library resources and support, including those in other library units and departments (e.g., Digital Scholarship Services, Archives & Special Collections); developing curricular and co-curricular engagement opportunities; and providing academic and research support for faculty and students.
Collaborate with the Associate University Librarian for Collections and Quality Assurance and other collections working group leaders to develop, implement, and maintain ULS general collections in assigned disciplinary and other areas. This responsibility includes working with other STEM liaisons to understand and respond to research trends, current and anticipated user needs, and library budget constraints; contributing to the development of methodologies for data analyses, evaluation of new resources, resource trials, and renewals, and monitoring trends in Open Access publishing trends. This work will include the development and application of assessment mechanisms for ULS general collections to inform decision making.
