Georgetown University Library seeks a Bibliographer for Latin American Studies and Iberian Languages for an opportunity to develop collections in a full spectrum of formats in coordination with a wide range of constituencies. We seek an experienced and innovative individual skilled at both building and assessing research collections across a large, complex, and rapidly changing information landscape. Reporting to the Head of Collection Development, this position serves as the Library's principal liaison to faculty, graduate and undergraduate students whose work centers in Latin America whether they are affiliated with the Center for Latin American Studies in the School of Foreign Service or with another department such as Spanish and Portuguese, Government, History, or Anthropology, and will secondarily take liaison responsibility for Spanish and Portuguese and other subjects as appropriate. Develops collections in line with the pedagogical and research needs of the University, oversees the materials budget, fosters effective working relationships with library and academic colleagues and helps to manage collections.  This position also serves as the expert for all services related to sources for Latin American studies and Iberian languages, and provides general reference and information services in the social sciences, business, and the humanities. Interprets and analyzes the information needs of researchers in particular as they pertain to Latin America, including those in the Special Collections Research Center.  Teaches library research sessions in subject areas congruent with collection responsibilities and creates research guides and other instructional materials. Employs new technologies to enhance reference and instruction services—e.g., social networking tools, multimedia, and learning management systems—in order to reach users in an increasingly online environment.
Qualifications:
·    A minimum of 3 years of experience working with Latin American collections in an academic or research library is required; collection development experience is strongly preferred.
·    Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution, or similarly appropriate/equivalent advanced degree or documented substantive experience is required
·    A second Master's Degree in a field relevant to Latin American studies is required.
·    Must possess knowledge of the history, politics, economics, literatures, and cultures of Latin America.
·    Demonstrated experience in research methodologies, instruction and public services.
·    Must be fluent in Spanish.  A reading knowledge of Portuguese is required.
·    Demonstrated expertise in use of web-authoring applications, knowledge of current instructional and multimedia technologies, and a high degree of computer literacy and demonstrated interest in the application of information technologies in the social sciences and humanities are required.
·    Evidence of superior oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
·    Superior analytical and problem-solving skills.
·    Record of participation and/or contribution in library professional organizations.
·    Must have strong commitment to service, and the ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic environment, with all levels of patrons and staff.
Salary/Benefits/Rank:  Salary commensurate with experience.  Comprehensive benefits package including 21 days/year paid leave; medical; TIAA/CREF; tuition assistance. This is a 12-month Academic/Administrative Professional (AAP) appointment.
