The University of Miami Libraries seek a dynamic and innovative librarian to help develop the Cuban Heritage Collection's and the Libraries' resources on Cuba and its diaspora in all formats and across all material types and to take the lead on the Collection's research, instructional, and educational services and programs.

THE LIBRARY: The University of Miami Libraries (www.library.miami.edu) rank among the top 50 research libraries in North America with a collection of over 3 million volumes, 74,000 current serials, and over 64,000 E-journal titles. The Otto G. Richter Library lies in the heart of the Coral Gables campus and serves as the central library for the University. Other University of Miami libraries include the Paul Buisson Architecture Library, the Judi Prokop Newman Business Information Resource Center, and the Marta & Austin Weeks Music Library, and the Marine and Atmospheric Science Library. The campus also has independent medical and law libraries.  The Libraries provide support and services for approximately 10,100 undergraduates, 5,100 graduate students, and 10,000 full and part time faculty and staff. The Libraries have a staff of 37 Librarians and 86 support staff and are a member of ARL, ASERL, CLIR, NERL, RLG, and Lyrasis.
THE CUBAN HERITAGE COLLECTION: The Cuban Heritage Collection at the University of Miami Libraries collects, preserves, and provides access to primary and secondary sources of enduring historical, research, and artifactual value which relate to Cuba and the Cuban diaspora from colonial times to the present.  The Collection supports the teaching, learning, and research needs of the University of Miami and the broader scholarly community. The Collection is housed within the 10,000-square-foot Roberto C. Goizueta Pavilion housed in the Otto G. Richter Library. The Collection spans nearly 400 years and contains over 250,000 items including rare books, journals, periodicals, newspapers, manuscripts, and archival collections including personal papers, postcards, photographs, oral histories, maps, posters, and ephemera. THE POSITION: Reporting to the Chair, the Cuban Heritage Collection Librarian has responsibilities in two areas: Collection Development: selects and acquires resources about Cuba and its diaspora published in Cuba, the United States, and abroad; coordinates acquisitions and cataloging workflows with Libraries' Acquisitions and Cataloging and Metadata Services units; identifies e-resources such as websites, e-newsletters, and blogs for web archiving; manages annual acquisitions allocations and gift budgets; evaluates and makes recommendations on collection growth and space allocation; participates in fund raising and helps represent the Collection in community and professional activities; and may travel to identify and acquire materials for the Collection.  Public Services: identifies and pursues opportunities for partnerships at the University and beyond to maximize the use of CHC materials to support scholarly communications; expands digital scholarship by promoting the use of digital tools and resources in teaching and research; based on quantitative and qualitative assessment, makes recommendations for collection development, processing, preservation, and cataloging priorities to meet research demand and improve services; provides course-based and related instruction; coordinates CHC exhibitions (including digital) and public programs; oversees the Reading Room staff and services, including reference, paging, and requests for copies and digital reproductions; and implements library assessment tools in CHC.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required: ALA-accredited Master's degree, an ALA approved overseas equivalent, or a Ph.D. with appropriate library experience; at least 3 years professional library experience, including at least one year of experience in special collections; scholarly knowledge of the history and culture of Cuba and its diaspora; demonstrated ability to manage a collection budget and approval plans; experience in providing reference services to academic library patrons and ability to teach courses drawing on library materials; proficiency in the use of bibliographic tools and resources; familiarity with issues, trends, principles and practices in collection development and instruction; oral and written fluency in both English and Spanish. Preferred: Supervisory experience and experience in project planning, management, and completion.
SALARY AND BENEFITS: Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. This is a non-tenure track faculty appointment at the Librarian Assistant/ Associate Professor rank.
