The University of Miami Libraries seeks nominations and applications for an innovative Librarian in the Education and Outreach department of the Otto G. Richter Library. The Education and Outreach Librarian act as liaison and subject specialist for departments primarily include History, Latin American Studies, Caribbean Studies, Modern Languages and Literatures. The Librarian specializes in information literacy, outreach, collection development, departmental liaison activities, and information, technology and research assistance for the University community in assigned subjects and areas of responsibility.

The University comprises 11 degree granting schools and colleges, including Architecture, Arts and Sciences, Business Administration, Communication, Education, Engineering, Law, Medicine, Music, Nursing, and Marine and Atmospheric Science (www.miami.edu).
THE LIBRARY: The University of Miami Libraries (www.library.miami.edu) rank among the top 50 research libraries in North America with a collection of over 3 million volumes, 74,000 current serials, and over 64,000 E-journal titles. The Otto G. Richter Library lies in the heart of the Coral Gables campus and serves as the central library for the University. Other University of Miami libraries include the Paul Buisson Architecture Library, the Judi Prokop Newman Business Information Resource Center, and the Marta & Austin Weeks Music Library, and the Marine and Atmospheric Science Library. The campus also has independent medical and law libraries. The Libraries provide support and services for approximately 10,100 undergraduates, 5,100 graduate students, and 10,000 full and part time faculty and staff. The Libraries have a staff of 37 Librarians and 86 support staff and are a member of ARL, ASERL, CLIR, NERL, RLG, and Lyrasis.
POSITION: Reporting to the Head of Education and Outreach, the Education and Outreach Librarian specializes in information literacy, outreach; collection development; departmental liaison activities; and information, technology, and research assistance for the University community in assigned subjects and areas of responsibility.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Performance
- Participate as a departmental liaison for faculty and students in designated departments to meet the expectations of the faculty and students as well as develop and promote services and resources to enhance the research, teaching, and learning mission of the University.
- Develop resources and implement classes and workshops in real and virtual environments to provide multiple opportunities for teaching critical information literacy skills and library resources. Encourage and develop partnerships and collaborations with faculty when possible.
- Participate in the curation of physical and virtual exhibits utilizing all library resources.
- Develop outreach activities and communication to promote library programming, resources and services.
- Work collaboratively and communicate timely and effectively with University of Miami faculty, students, staff and administrators.
- Provide subject based consultations and develop and revise print and digital resources in support of a department and subject area.
- Work collaboratively with library faculty and staff to develop, provide and evaluate information, technology, research, and instruction activities and assistance geared towards and appealing to the faculty and the varying interests and learning styles of today's students.
- Select, assess, and manage collections and resources in designated subject areas.
- Participate as the Education and Outreach Liaison for the Libraries' special collections for relevant subject areas.
- Monitor budgets, evaluate usage, and make collection development decisions to support the teaching, learning, and research needs of the University community. Work collaboratively with the Director of Collection Strategies and Scholarly Communication.
- Supervise or direct library and student assistants.
- Keep abreast of relevant literature and studies for current awareness of trends, developments, and best practices in librarianship, information technology, instructional technology, and scholarly communication, with particular emphasis on information and reference service, information literacy and instruction, collection development, and assigned subjects and disciplines.
Service
- Network, collaborate and actively participate in local, regional, national, or international organizations regarding information and reference service, information literacy and instruction, collection development, and/or assigned subjects and disciplines.
- Represent and promote the University of Miami Libraries in local, state-wide, regional, national, or international organizations as appropriate.
- Serve on/participate in University organizations, committees, task forces, and teams as appropriate.
- Serve on library committees, task forces, and teams as appropriate.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- ALA accredited master's degree or equivalent
- A minimum of two years of academic library work experience
- Fluency in written and spoken Spanish
- Educational background in a social science subject is preferred
- Experience providing in-person and online reference, instruction.
- Collection development experience. Collection development in the social sciences areas is preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively with faculty and students.
- Commitment to user-centered library service and the promotion of literacy skills.
- Ability to work independently and in teams in a dynamic changing environment.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills. Ability to initiate, manage and implement projects communicating results effectively.
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge with assessment strategies.
- Ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse population.
- A commitment to the importance of excellence in teaching and scholarship.
- The ability to work collaboratively and effectively with staff, faculty, and University administration.
- Strong commitment to professional development and life-long learning.
- Skill in developing, organizing, and maintaining print and digital information resources.
- Ability to positively represent and promote the interests of the Libraries in the community.
SALARY AND BENEFITS: Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. This is a non-tenure track faculty appointment at the Librarian Assistant/ Associate Professor rank.
