The Steven & Dorothea Green Library at Florida International University seeks a knowledgeable, innovative, energetic, collaborative, and service-oriented library professional for the new position, Global Learning Librarian. The Global Learning for Global Citizenship Initiative is the University's Quality Enhancement Plan for undergraduate education. The plan involves a graduation requirement that all students take at least two of the nearly 140 global learning courses housed across all academic departments. The Global Learning Librarian is expected to provide leadership, creativity, and vision to help enhance and develop the library's critical role in the success of this exciting initiative.
 
Reporting to the Head of Information and Research Services at Green Library, the Global Learning Librarian will serve as liaison to the Office of Global Learning Initiatives and its faculty. The position involves coordinating and supporting library faculty in meeting the needs of global learning students, as well as assisting university faculty to develop and teach global learning courses. The responsibilities of this position will include: coordinating and leading library instructional activities; creating instructional materials in print and online; providing research assistance to students and faculty; engaging in outreach activities within the university and community-at-large; assessing the resource needs of Global Learning faculty; and, planning and implementing workshops and programs related to Global Learning. This librarian will work with the various subject liaisons in the collection development process to select global learning, resources and materials. The position also calls for engagement with both the FIU and local, national, and international communities.
Some evenings and weekends may be required. As a library faculty member, the Global Learning Librarian is expected to participate in professional development, research, and service activities in order to meet the Libraries' and University's requirements for promotion.
 
Job Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Participates in providing reference and information services including library instruction.
  • Coordinates and conducts library instruction.
  • Creates instructional materials in print and online.
  • Provides research assistance to students and faculty.
  • Engages in outreach activities within the university and the community-at-large.
  • Assesses the library resource and service needs of the Global Learning faculty.
  • Plans and implements workshops and programs related to Global Learning focusing on library resources.
  • Participates in the collection development process focusing on cross-disciplinary materials appropriate, or relevant to global learning.
    Required Qualifications
  • ALA accredited MLS or MLIS.
  • 3 years or more experience as an academic librarian.
  • Experience in Reference and Library Instruction.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty and staff in curricular and co-curricular development.
  • Demonstrated ability to excel as a team member in a collaborative interdisciplinary working environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience planning and implementing community engagement and outreach activities.
    Desirable Qualifications
  • Familiarity with and a strong interest in global dynamics and perspectives.
  • Familiarity with, or experience using International government documents.

Rank/Salary: Non-tenured faculty status; rank is competitive based on qualifications and experience; salary range, $50,000 - $60,000.
