Dear SALALM community and prospective SALALM 65 attendees,
Some of you have begun to ask about contingency plans for the upcoming SALALM conference in Sacramento, June 5-8 as the COVID-19 virus spreads around the world. We are monitoring the news regarding the epidemic but the situation remains fluid, and authorities cannot yet predict how far the disease will spread and to what extent, or for how long normal activities may be interrupted.
Roberto Delgadillo, Chair of Local Arrangements for our upcoming SALALM conference in Sacramento June 5-8, has requested guidance from administrators of the University of California-Davis, but so far everyone is on a “wait and see” mode.
In the meantime, and until we have any definite news to indicate proceeding differently, with President Sarah Buck Kachaluba, we continue preparations for a great conference in Sacramento in early June.
I hope everyone continues to register for the conference. But I understand there may be concerns. If we receive news that either the federal or state government cancels meetings, therefore canceling SALALM 65 in the coming months, we will plan accordingly. I do want to assure you that, in the event of federally or state-mandated closings, SALALM will refund any registration monies in full.
Also, we have confirmed that the Embassy Suites-Sacramento Riverwalk Hilton--the conference hotel--will refund without penalty any room cancellations 48 hours before the day of arrival.
Finally, although SALALM cannot refund airline tickets and other transportation booked to travel to and from the conference, do check with your airline or other carrier since some airlines have begun to offer penalty fee waivers for ticket changes for one year for travel interrupted by the epidemic.
We will keep you posted as we know more!
