Cuban Heritage Coordinator (Library Coordinator 2)


Project Coordination

  • Seeks out, documents, and maintains authoritative bibliographical data about holdings related to Cuban history and culture, establishing authoritative master lists of digital candidates and surrogate assets across the environment of relevant holding institutions.
  • Establishes workflows and manages digitization of materials at UF, in coordination with digitization undertaken by partnering institutions.
  • Works with the Curator of LACC to appraise and select materials for digitization. Liaises with the Collection Services unit and with other departments such as Digital Production Services, Preservation, and Cataloging & Metadata units to maintain workflows. Assists in the creation and maintenance of metadata.
  • Coordinates local curators and subject specialists in establishing relevant metadata, determining intellectual rights, providing original or digital materials for workflows, and secure return of materials.
  • Serves as chief point of contact between UF Libraries and operational colleagues at partnering institution for identification of, planning for, and prioritization of digitization of Cuban-related holdings.
  • Provides reports and statistical data regularly and upon request, in support of special projects, grant applications, sharing of data with partners, or other needs.

Collection Analysis

  • Analyzes print and digital holdings at UF and partnering institutions to identity Cuban and other materials for digitization or increased digital access, in line with strategic initiatives.
  • Prepares, maintains and updates collection data records.
  • Prepares reports and maintains data responding to calls for content by SASC Chair, Libraries administrators and potential external partners.
  • Works closely with curators and the Head of Collection Services to provide consistency, focus and efficiency in collection analysis, and coordinates departmental responses in relevant subject areas.
  • Maintains and provides collection data and statistics to curators for preparation of collection development policies and assessment activities across collections.


  • Provides presentations in person, by webinar, in narrative format, or through other outlets to promote scholarly and public understanding of digital collections about Cuba or related subjects.
  • Establishes social media and other communication presence for digital collections derived from or closely linked to the Special and Area Studies Collections Department.


Participates in other departmental activities, including public service and special projects as assigned. Participates in staff development opportunities as needed. Performs other duties as needed.

Advertised Salary

$56,400 annually. Actual salary will reflect selected professional’s experience and credentials.

Minimum Requirements

Master’s degree in library or information science or other directly relevant area; or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area and four years of related library experience


  • Professional level knowledge of Spanish.
  • Ability to undertake U.S. and international travel, including to Cuba.
  • Excellent planning, analytical and organizational skills.
  • Strong familiarity with Latin American or Caribbean history and culture.
  • Experience in bibliographical or other documentary projects.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with faculty, students, administrators and the general public.
  • Working knowledge of library technologies.
  • Initiative, flexibility and the ability to adapt and work creatively in a complex, rapidly changing academic environment.
  • Library or archives experience, particularly in an academic or research institution.
  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant field.
  • Record of including individuals of diverse backgrounds, experiences, races, ethnicities, genders, and perspectives in research, teaching, service and other work.
